We’ve lined up 8 of Princess Dianas Favourite Bags all of which are still available to purchase. There are many opinions about Princess Diana but the most commonly shared opinion is she was unlike the rest of the royals and that included her fashion. Princess Diana loved to take tradition and what was expected and add her own spin. You will notice that her 8 favourite bags below have been named in her honour as Diana, for all intents and purposes, made the bags what they are – iconic.

8 of Princess Diana’s Favourite Bags

We’ve tracked down some of the latest princesses’ favourite bags below.

1) Gucci Diana Bamboo Handle Tote Bag

Price: $4800 / £3610

Gucci Diana medium tote bag

In 2021 Gucci brought out reinvented Diana bag from the original Princess Diana wore frequently. The design pays homage to the original with its bamboo handle and rectangular structure however the bag is now more rigid which allows the bag to retain its silhouette. The bamboo handle transports us to exotic places and is reminiscent of hotter climates however the combination of fabrics and colours makes0 the bag fit for all seasons.

The exterior of the bag is made from leather and real bamboo for the handle. Inside you will find a microfibre lining with a suede-like finish, as well as an interior open pocket accompanied by two zip compartments. The bag has gold detailing with the Gucci logo embellished on the front of the bag. Included with the tote bag are two belt handle shapers and a matching leather detachable strap so that the tote bag can be worn crossbody or over the shoulder.

The bag is available in sizes mini, small and medium. Princess Diana’s own Gucci handle bag was very similar if not the same size as the current medium sold. We often saw Diana with the bag on more casual occasions such as at the gym. We definitely think the bag is worthy of dinner date looks, but we can understand why the bag was used for such gym outings. The bag is a super practical size and fits more than the average person would need to carry. Is this the dreamy work bag you’ve been waiting to find?

The Lady Dior is no newcomer for any serious luxury bag lover. The bag has been and continues to be popular regardless if you’re a fan of Princess Diana. Whilst there are now multiple versions and we’re sure modernisations behind the scenes to create the bag, the overall look has changed very little from when it was seen in Princess Diana’s hands to when we see it now, on the shelves (or online).

So why does the bag remain popular? The simple answer is it is unarguably a timeless creation. A simple design made of quality materials made by an iconic luxury fashion house we all know and love. The bag is made of lambskin leather and includes gold Dior charms attached from to the handle. Included with your top handle bag is a detachable strap making the bag an all-round versatile powerhouse for day-to-night looks, year after year.

Princess Diana would wear her Lady Dior by its handle to optimise its sophistication, the bag was seen worn at many official outings. The Lady Dior could be your perfect travel companion for you to wear crossbody around the city in the day which transforms into a regal top handle tote worthy of Michelin star restaurants at night.

Arguably one of Princess Diana’s favourite bags, the Ferragamo Diana Clutch was seen worn by the princess in the colours black, cream and green – That’s not to say she didn’t own any other colours. There are currently 8 colour variations to suit every season and look from block colours to maximalist prints as well as a suede-like or smooth leather outer finish. There is a Diana Clutch for every style.

The clutch is chic, minimal and therefore regal. Included with the bag is a chain strap that neatly tucks into the bag taking up little space. The clutch itself is a very practical size which would fit our modern larger iPhones and all the essentials such as keys, cards and lipstick. The bag is made from quality calfskin for the exterior and suede for the interior. The bag does have one compartment which is kept closed and safe by Ferragamo signature lock, inside there is a zip compartment to give an added element of safety for those important essentials.

Available directly from the Ferragamo website, the Diana clutch could be the one you reach for time and time again much as the princess did herself.

June 04 1995 Diana, Princess of Wales, greets the crowd on a walking tour of the Northwestern University campus in Evanston, Illinois.

The Lady Diana bag from Chanel is one of their better-known iconic designs. However Chanel no longer sells the Lady Diana bag, fortunately, the bags are found on the pre–loved market. The bag itself resembles the current Chanel Classic handbag, the key difference being the curved shape of the flap.

The bag is made from lambskin leather and has a quilted design accompanied by Chanel symbolic leather and a gold entwined strap. The Chanel emblem sits proudly on the front. Inside is a deep red leather interior with a zip pocket. Like most Chanel bags, its style and design are timeless. If you have been wanting a vintage Chanel, something special? The Lady Diana could be the bag you’re looking for.

5) Chanel Camera Bag

27th January 1992 Diana, Princess of Wales visits a hospice in Windsor, UK.

Another iconic design that is still sold directly by Chanel is the Chanel Camera bag. The bag has withstood the test of time and remains a fan favourite 20 years after it was seen worn by Princess Diana. The bag has a compact design with a rectangular structure that zips shut. It is the perfect mini-strap bag to carry all your essentials.

The bag takes on new colourways and designs, currently available are the classic quilted lambskin covered Camera bags and the viscose-weaved designs. Princess Diana’s own Chanel Camera Bag is currently unavailable but the one linked bears the most resemblance, the added gold chain detailing being the only major difference. The Camera bag comes in two sizes: the mini and the small. Both sizes tend to be identical in features. Inside the bag is a fabric lining with a card slot.

The bag is a great classic to have amongst your collection and it’s compact, zipped and iconic look could have you reaching for it daily.

6) Tod’s Logo-Patch Leather Tote Bag

Price: $3075 / £1990

May 1997, Diana, Princess Of Wales In Lahore, Pakistan, During Her Visit To Help The Shaukat Memorial Hospital.

The Logo-Patch Leather Tote Bag from Tod is, in our opinion, the Tod bag that most resembles the design we often saw Princess Diana wear. However, there is actually a dedicated bag that has been boldly reimagined named the Di bag available directly on their website. The Di bag feels further away from the Tod Tote we saw with Princess Diana, fortunately, their Logo-Patch Leather Tote Bag is very similar meaning that we can purchase a Tod original tote that embodies the same elegance Princess Diana’s bag did.

The tote is essential for any collection, it is practical, chic and above all, timeless. The colour of the bag is a stunning caramel brown however the bag is also available in black and cream. Covering both the exterior and interior is calf leather, on the outside, the leather is given a grained texture which gives the luxury feel you would expect to meet a standard fit for a Princess, literally. Two tall top handles make the bag comfortably fit over the shoulder. The bag is secured with a zip across the top, and inside is a removable zip pouch which helps keep the large tote organised.

The tote is the ideal size for a work bag or even a weekend bag. If you’re looking for a large tote bag to stand the test of time, don’t hesitate with Tod’s Logo-Patch Leather Tote Bag.

Princess Diana Cleavage Clutch

To avoid the paparazzi taking provocative photos and to avoid the press being able to create slander headlines the next day, Princess Diana would use her clutch to cover her cleavage, alas the cleavage clutch was born. Princess Diana joked about the name with her friend and bag designer, Anya Hindmarch, who would make Diana satin clutch bags to wear.

7) Anya Hindmarch Satin Bow Clutch

Price: $635 / £395

September 1990, Diana, Princess of Wales (1961 – 1997) wears a white evening gown by Catherine Walker to the Black and White Ball in London.

Recreate Princess Diana’s look with a modern twist. The Bow Clutch from Anya Hindmarch is reminiscent of the timeless designs Diana wore, reimagined with a bow twist detail and bow frill ends. The official colour of the bag linked is silver but it definitely pulls towards warmer champagne which would make it the dreamiest wedding clutch bag, or even if you’re a wedding guest.

The Bow Clutch is made from double-faced satin and lined inside in beautifully soft suede. The bow detailing on the front of the bag hides the magnetic closure for an ultra-sleek elegant design. If you’re looking for a satin clutch look no further!

September 1989, Diana, Princess of Wales (1961 – 1997) attends a Royal Gala Performance of the musical ‘Miss Saigon’ at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London.

Now Princess Diana may not have had the luxury of owning the YSL Kate Chain Wallet In Mirrored Leather but you could. Taking inspiration from one of Diana’s own metallic clutch bags, the YSL Kate is a sleek modern alternative. Included with the bag is a detachable chain strap to take your bag from day to night and look to look.

The bag is made from calfskin leather and has a snap button closure. Inside you will find one main compartment with a zipped coin purse and 8 card slots. The mirrored metallic effect of the bag is guaranteed to elevate any outfit and compliment accent jewellery beautifully.

Still fondly remembered and adored, Princess Diana’s influence remains effective, so it’s unsurprising that bags once seen worn by the Princess are sold out. There are also designs from Diana’s archive that are now no longer made and are classed as vintage. This is where buying pre-loved can be really helpful.
